East Africa, bordering the Indian Ocean and the Red Sea, is a land of beautiful beaches and breathtaking forests. Numerous archaeological discoveries have been made in East Africa, including some of the most striking evidence for mankind's origins in the Olduvai River Gorge, Tanzania. Wildlife is abundant in this section of Africa and many herds of animals still roam the plains of Kenya. Mountain gorillas can also be found in the upland forests of Uganda. There are several major metropolitan cities in East Africa including Nairobi and Addis Ababa, and the people of this western region range from urban dwellers to nomadic tribes.
